True Independence

 Gandhi, Nehru, Vallabhbhai Patel: these are few of the countless names that engulf one's mind when one thinks of the independence day or the freedom struggle of India. India, which is known as the largest democracy of the world has achieved this feat only after a series of sacrifices and movements. The losses endured for us to celebrate the independence day are unrepayable and will adorn the tricolour for ages and ages hence. 

15th August 1947, one of the greatest milestones of Indian history, is celebrated as independence day. Proudly and rightly so, this independence is the gift of our ancestors. It all started with Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and this spark gradually grew to become the fire that eradicated British rule from India. 

Progress in independent India has been rapid. Railways, education and every other field has developed with time. And, days are not far away when we would be seeing India compete with the top-ranked countries in the world. 

However, in my opinion, India in 2021 is not what we can call independent. Although we have independence literally, we cannot yet assure the people to keep their doors open while out of their homes. We cannot yet assure the people that burglars and thieves will not rob them. We cannot yet say that every person enjoys equal rights and is socially, politically, economically and culturally equal. My thoughts, influenced by Mr. Atal Vihari Bajpayee, say that true independence will come to India only when every person has to home to live in, money to buy their needs and equality in the nation. 

A lot has changed in this 74-year old independent India but not the respect for freedom fighters. Consequently, why only on independence day, let us take a pledge everyday to continue this independence forever and ever and ever and ever. Every single day, let us take a minute to thank and recollecting the memories as well as struggles of those, whom we owe our independence too.
